OGDEN, UTAH, Oct. 13, 2010—Trace Minerals Research (TMR) has announced that it has been awarded Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) recertification with an “A” rating by the Natural Products Association (NPA) under the new Food and Drug Administration final cGMP rule for dietary supplements. TMR is one of only a handful of companies who are currently certified under the Revised NPA cGMP Standard for Dietary Supplements which incorporates the FDA final cGMP rule [21 CFR 111].
“It’s a proud day for us,” said Matt Kilts, Managing Partner of TMR. “Being one of the first companies to be GMP compliant by the NPA with the new FDA regulations was very important to us because quality is one of our core principles at TMR. Back in 2004, we were one of the top 50 companies to become certified GMP by the NPA. It was important to us to be one of the first to be compliant under the new FDA regulations to show our customers that we are committed to providing them the highest quality products.”
The NPA’s GMP certification program not only meets the current FDA rule [21 CFR 111], but it exceeds the rule with other specific requirements as outlined by the Revised NPA’s cGMP Standard for Dietary Supplements. The NPA also uses third-party auditors to conduct audits of supplier member manufacturing facilities. Auditors must be trained in the Natural Products Association GMP standards and performance rating system, and have the required education, experience and training to conduct on-site audits.
According to the NPA’s website (www.npainfo.org), “the program ensures that all elements of the manufacturing process are reviewed to provide reasonable assurance that processes are sufficiently controlled so that products meet their established specification for quality, including identity, purity, strength and composition.”
